FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1.) When does practice start? For 2010, preseason practices will start on or about August 2. Practices will be held at Weatogue park on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 8:00. In season practice schedule will be announced.
2.) What should I bring to practice? For the beginning of preseason practices, players should wear shorts, light colored shirts and cleats. They should bring plenty of their own water in clearly marked water bottles.
3.) When will equipment be handed out? Equipment pick up will be scheduled for sometime after preseason practices start. Pads will not be worn in the first week of practice. Players must log a minimum of 8 hours of practice/conditioning without pads prior to being allowed to wear pads and participate in full contact drills. Coaches will monitor this rule.
4.) How are teams formed? Starting in 2009, all teams will be formed by grade level, with a few exceptions. There are no more older/lighters under this new system. Please click on the "Football" button to the left for more detail.
5.) What are the minimum play rules? The rules vary depending upon the size of your team. Generally, each player is required to play a minimum of 10 plays per game. Please contact your coach for details.
6.) Do I need to provide a birth certificate this year? We are still determining this for 2010. Please check back.
7.) Where does SYFL play its home games? We play some of our games at the Simsbury High School fields and some at the Weatogue fields.
8.) How far are the away games? You can go to the MidConn Football website (see links) and see the towns that we play. During the season, we will play roughly 4 games home and 4 games away.
9.) Are there playoffs? Yes, for all levels above Mity Mite. Playoffs are on a win or out basis. Teams that continue to win can advance to the New England and eventually the National Championships. For 2009, the National Championships were in Florida. Mid Conn was well represented at these Championships. In 2005 the Simsbury Trojans "A" team went to Phoenix were it finished third in the National championships.
